Rebuilding Local Awareness
I worked with Little Gus Café, a locally owned breakfast restaurant in Plano, Texas, on an applied business project to develop and implement a practical growth strategy focused on rebuilding community awareness, improving digital visibility, and increasing customer engagement.
The project was designed around a real challenge many local businesses face today: standing out in an increasingly digital and competitive market while maintaining strong community connections. My goal was to create a realistic, measurable plan that combined traditional community outreach with modern digital marketing tools.
One of the primary initiatives involved improving the café’s online presence through the development and implementation of a modern website strategy. The website served as a central hub for customers to learn about the restaurant, view menu information, access business hours, and connect with the café online. The project focused on creating a more professional and accessible digital presence that aligned with current customer expectations.
In addition to improving the website presence, I helped develop and analyze targeted Google Ads campaigns designed to increase local visibility and attract nearby customers searching for breakfast restaurants and cafés in the area. These campaigns focused on improving brand awareness, increasing search visibility, and driving traffic both online and in-store. Throughout the project, advertising performance metrics such as impressions, clicks, engagement, and reach were monitored to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
Another major component of the project involved building stronger community relationships through local partnership outreach. The goal was to identify opportunities for collaboration with nearby organizations and community groups in order to strengthen local awareness and encourage customer engagement beyond traditional advertising. This aspect of the project emphasized the importance of relationship-building and community presence in small business growth.
To better understand customer experiences and perceptions, I also developed and implemented a customer feedback survey initiative. The survey collected insights related to customer satisfaction, dining preferences, awareness of the restaurant’s digital presence, and areas where the café could improve engagement. The feedback provided valuable data that helped support project recommendations and offered insight into customer behavior and expectations.
Throughout the project, measurable performance indicators were used to evaluate progress and effectiveness. Metrics related to website engagement, advertising performance, customer participation, and digital visibility were analyzed to assess how different strategies contributed to overall awareness and engagement goals. This data-driven approach allowed the project to move beyond general marketing ideas and focus on practical, trackable business outcomes.
Working on this project provided valuable real-world experience applying business concepts in a practical environment. It strengthened my understanding of marketing strategy, digital business tools, customer engagement, analytics, and community-focused business development. More importantly, it demonstrated how small businesses can combine local relationships with modern digital strategies to adapt and grow in a changing business landscape.
This experience reinforced my interest in business innovation, digital strategy, and entrepreneurship while allowing me to contribute meaningful work to a local business within the community.
